Workplace Violence Prevention

Workplace violence is essentially adult bullying in the workplace with potentially extreme violence consequences. Workplace violence can be perpetrated by a co-worker or subordinate, or it can come from an outside sources such as a disgruntled customer.

Violence in the workplace from co-workers, supervisors, managers or subordinates is more predominant than most people are willing to admit. When asked, people often don't relate being browbeaten or pushed around in the workplace as a problem and accept this as part of normal, every day workplace behaviour. Certainly, they don't want to bring the matter up as they are afraid to lose their jobs and in these times of economic and employment uncertainties people are willing to accept being treated poorly.

The Right to Work in a Violence and Harassment Free Environment

That's right, you have the right to work in a violence and harassment free environment - this is guaranteed under the law. Many workplaces do have a harassment prevention policy in place but it is seldom effectively implemented leaving workers vulnerable to the cruelty of others. According to law, all workplaces have some sort of Worplace Safety Policy in place that involves establishing a committee to ensure the workplace abides by established safety regulations.

What about harassment in the workplace? Harassment is a form of psychological violence and can be detrimental to a person's work performance as much as the general safety of others in the same workplace. We can assist a workplace in the following:

  • Carry out a Workplace Safety and Security Audit (internal and external threats)
  • Provide recommendations to improve the workplace to protect the workers
  • Provide consultations on safety and security measures
  • Deliver training sessions to assist workers on how to deal with potentially violent situations
  • Other areas that might be deemed important and related to workplace security
