Training Concepts
Unlike many other martial art schools the training you take in Street Defense Tactics is "battlefield tested" and developed based on actual scenarios. The founder is a master hapkidoist who has had many direct street defense experiences, and is thoroughly knowledgeable in the psychology of violence and the criminal code making him an expert in the field of self defense and close quarter hand to hand combat. What this means is that what is taught here doesn't come out of a book or videos but rather from actual experience and years of teaching our troops, police and correctional officers to prepare them for actual situations and operations in some very hostile environments.
What-if Scenarios
Many martial arts schools have training classes in "What-if scenarios;" this is not copyrighted but the Street Defense Tactics concept, approach, methodology, and delivery in this area are and this is what puts SDT head and shoulders above the rest. Without going into any details the training sessions are loose, fun and involve a great deal of exploration of the incident, the circumstances and the actors, which helps in testing responses and self defense techniques.
More importantly, because the founder has taught criminal law and criminology to aspiring police and correctional officers your training is peppered with references and instructions to your rights under the law, what constitutes an assault and self defense as well as an explanation of what excessive force is. This is important as it will help keep you out of trouble with the law when you are obliged to defend yourself against physical assault. Also, because the founder is also a certified psychoanalyst, your training also incorporates discussions on the effects of a traumatic experience on your ability to effectively come out of the situation physically and mentally intact.
